ABOUT Us
Tickets
Beginning in 2012 as the Purrrlesque Follies, this festival began with the goal of using our shakes and shimmies for good. over the past three years, we have put together a festival that is not only about showcasing our talents, but raising awareness for local charities. In 2012, our festival was headlined by Jo 'Boobs' Weldon with the proceeds going towards the Sheree Denise Jackson Foundation. In 2013, the festival benefited Girls Rock NC and featured Nasty Canasta and Peekaboo Pointe. Calamity Chang headlined the festival in 2014 and raised more than 1,500 for the Merit Pitbull Foundation. Rechristened the Discordia Days Burlesque Festival in 2015, the troupe moved to a new home, CTG's Star Theater in Greensboro. This is a gorgeous space that's both opulent and modern. Headlined by Iris LeMour and featuring Jezebelle Von Jane, nearly a thousand dollars was raised for AIDS Care Services. The 2016 Festival featured Kitten DeVille and benefited Northstar LGBT Center. 2017 featured Miss Poison Ivory, 2016 Miss Exotic World, and benefited the NC ACLU. 2018 featured RedBone and Ellie Quinn while raising money for Gate City Legal Services. The 2019 festival featured Lou Lou la Duchesse de Riere and Calamity Chang and benefited the Interactive Resource Center of Greensboro.
The 2020 festival will feature Egypt Blaque Knyle and Jezebel Express. More details will be posted as they are confirmed.
All 2020 shows will be at the Crown at the Carolina Theatre. Friday and Saturday shows will be at 8PM, with Sunday's show starting at 1 PM.
Update from the Dames, July 4th, 2020
Good Morning Folks,
Firstly, let me, Memphis, apologize for the delay in giving an update. One of the hardest things as an event producer is to try to navigate when to give information that could change at any second. The last thing I want to do is tell you one thing only to have to change that the next day. Please forgive me for being overly cautious on that end.
With that being said, here's where we are with the festival. We are trying to be optimistic and have worked out a new date with the theatre. We are currently slated for November 13-15th, 2020. We hope that the world will be at a place where we feel safe enough to gather together, perform, and raise funding for a local charity. With that being said, we are still monitoring the situation very closely and we will not hesitate to reschedule for 2021 if we feel there is any sort of risk for anyone involved as we get closer to our new date.
In addition to this, we are extending the application dates until August 31st, 2020 with notifications going out by September 15th. Again, in the event that we have to move to 2021, all acceptances will count for 2021 or after, pending your schedule. As stated previously, we have the pay the fee at the door application fee option. We are also adding a free application for POC performers until July 30th. We have striven to provide a safe, inclusive festival from its inception and now more than ever it is important that we create space for the art created by our POC family.
We hope to see you in November, but we'll be happy to see you when we can,
-Memphis and the Dames
From the Dames, April 29th, 2020.
Good Evening folks!
We are coming down to the wire on our applications. We know that considering everything going on, applying for a festival may be the last thing on your mind. Or worse, it is something that is filled with worry instead of a nervous anticipation. We get that. We are IMMENSELY grateful to every application we have received thus far. We've gotten some messages asking us about our plans. Will we stay, will we move, will we cancel for 2020? In short, we don't know right now. We are in communication with the theater, and we will update as soon as we know. NC is very optimistic about the reopen plans, but that can turn around very quickly. We as a troupe have made a few decisions regarding applications and acceptances.
1. Applications have been extended until MAY 31ST, 2020. We hope that extending this deadline past most reopen dates will help everyone get a better idea of their summer.
2. From today, April 29 to May 7th, we are instituting a pay-what-you-can week. Times are hard right now, and we want to give everyone the chance to be a part of DDBF. Details will be on the application website.
3. We will be offering a "pay at the door" option. If accepted, you can pay your application fee upon arrival.
4. In the event that we have to move the date, and you cannot be a part of the 2020 festival, your acceptance will be honored in 2021. If we have to cancel and you cannot be a part of 2021, your acceptance will be honored in 2022. It is hard to think about plans that far away right now, but we are people of our word, and we will honor your acceptance.
If you have any questions, feel free to message us here, or through our website. Old friends, and friends we haven't met yet, we honor and cherish you. We hope to see many of your shining faces on the other side of this. Stay healthy, safe, and sane.
